Paper price growth again after a short-term drop

According to the correspondent of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), the paper and cardboard market in the second week of Aban 1404 (early November 2025) continues to be affected by currency fluctuations, imports, and production costs. A look at market prices indicates price instability, as the cost of this commodity decreased at the beginning of the week but rose again in the last two days.

While the price of each ream of writing paper (70×100 cm, 70 gsm) had reached approximately 1,074,000 Tomans, it returned to 1,150,000 Tomans by the end of the week.

Some analyses suggest that the price increase is more due to a price bubble and market expectations rather than merely a supply shortage. However, the country’s reliance on imported raw materials is also not without effect in this regard, as about 75-80% of the country’s paper needs are supplied from abroad.

Furthermore, IBNA’s correspondent’s monitoring indicates that demand in the market has decreased, or at least transactions have significantly reduced, and the market is, in a sense, sluggish. This is because currency rate fluctuations and news related to paper imports and currency allocation have led the market to anticipate quicker price increases, causing active players in the printing and publishing sector to hold back for now.

Each ream of 70 gsm writing paper (100×70 cm) was sold for 2,150,000 Tomans, and each ream of 70 gsm Chinese paper (60×90 cm) was sold for 1,750,000 Tomans.

80 gsm paper also remained unchanged, with the 70×100 cm size trading at around 2,350,000 Tomans and the 60×90 cm size at 1,850,000 Tomans per ream. The price per kilogram of 250 gsm gray-back cardboard was 85,000 Tomans, 180 gsm was 84,000 Tomans per kilogram, 230 gsm was 85,000 Tomans per kilogram, and 250 gsm was 84,000 Tomans per kilogram.

Also, 128 gsm glossy paper, 100×70 cm size, was priced at 90,000 to 95,000 Tomans per kilogram; 250 gsm, 70×100 cm size, at 108,000 Tomans; 300 gsm, 70×100 cm size, at approximately 109,000 Tomans; and 200 gsm, 70×100 cm size, also at 109,000 Tomans.

Regarding other items needed by printing and publishing professionals, each kilogram of Iranian colored glossy ink was 470,000 Tomans, black glossy ink 365,000 Tomans, Iranian colored writing ink 403,000 Tomans, and Iranian black writing ink 315,000 Tomans in the market. The price of foreign glossy ink increased this week to about 560,000 to 690,000 Tomans.

The price of two-sheet zinc plates in the market varied from 200,000 to 220,000 Tomans depending on the brand and country of origin. Iranian cold binding glue was sold for 2,850,000 Tomans, and hot glue for 320,000 Tomans per kilogram. Isopropyl alcohol produced in the Netherlands was 140,000 to 150,000 Tomans per kilogram, and isopropyl alcohol produced in Korea was announced at 160,000 Tomans.
