The necessity of the role of economic institutions in Semnan province in promoting reading culture
According to Khabaronline News Agency Semnan province, Saeed Dehghanlou, the Director General of Public Libraries of Semnan, met with Hamid Dehrouyeh, the Deputy Coordinator for Economic Affairs of the Semnan Governorate, to discuss developing books and reading in the province and utilizing resources. The meeting focused on reviewing strategies to improve reading levels, support scientific talents, and strengthen the province’s economic infrastructure.
The Director General of Semnan Public Libraries pointed out the necessity for economic institutions in the province to play a role in promoting reading culture. He stated that the mission of the province’s public libraries is to create platforms to meet the reading needs of the general public in various scientific, cultural, educational, and social fields, as well as addressing the crucial issue of youth employment. He added: “The cultural activities of libraries are effective in relation to society’s economic issues; therefore, developing library infrastructure and supporting the reading movement are essential requirements for the cultural and social progress of the country.”
Subsequently, the Deputy Coordinator for Economic Affairs and Development Resources of the Governorate also referred to the necessity of economic institutions playing a role in promoting reading culture and acknowledged: “Sustainable development is impossible without attention to the cultural capital of the people, and support for public libraries must be considered a provincial responsibility.”
Hamid Dehrouyeh emphasized the need for large economic enterprises in the province to support the promotion of reading culture and stated: “Economic institutions can dedicate a portion of their expenses to advance reading culture.”
He further commented that public libraries should become centers for offering innovations, providing opportunities for individuals who cannot attend university for various reasons to emerge and showcase their abilities. He noted: “Public libraries will not only be beneficial for home-based and small businesses but also for large economic enterprises, serving as an important link between people and economic centers.”
Other topics raised in the meeting included equipping the province’s cities with mobile libraries, regular payment of the half-percent share from municipalities, and strategies for expanding reading culture.
