A brief history of the clothing of the people of the northern provinces
According to the reporter of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Rasht, the book “Identifying the Characteristics of Social Clothing in the Northern Provinces of the Country” is the result of a joint research by Fatemeh Moayednaseri, Maryam Aghabeygi, and Fatemeh Mozaffari. Chehrehmehr Publishing has released it in 100 pages and made it available to enthusiasts for 150,000 Tomans.
As evident from the research conducted in the book, clothing is considered one of the tangible manifestations of the identity and culture of any society, expressing security and a sense of belonging. Based on individuals’ understanding, nationality, ethnicity, religion, social, and cultural class, it presents each group in society with a specific culture. Since Islamic attire is an important issue in society, developing research on this topic in social and cultural dimensions within organizations and institutions is essential for promoting and strengthening the culture of Islamic attire.
The book’s researchers have described this research as applied in terms of objective and descriptive-analytical in terms of method, specifically a survey type.
In the first chapter, the authors discuss the generalities of the research, and in the second chapter, they review the literature and background of the research. With a brief introduction, they explain clothing and its functions, clothing and spatial categorization, clothing and law in society, social clothing from an Islamic perspective, and examine the cultural factors influencing the type of attire in Islamic societies and the neglect of the negative consequences of inappropriate attire. They also provide explanations regarding cultural changes, the expansion of consumer markets, mass media programs, the lack of social supervision, cultural poverty, the relationship between attire and culture, the type of attire after the Islamic Revolution, the role of mass media in clothing, and consumer tools in the process of de-clothing in Islamic society.
The prevalence of fashionism in Islamic society, cultural strategies in the matter of attire, social factors of fashion and clothing in society, and an examination of the trend of fashion and clothing in Iran from a political perspective are among other topics addressed in this book. Additionally, traditional Gilan clothing, an introduction to and characteristics of local clothing in Gilan, including the characteristics of local clothing for women and men, have been presented. At the end of the book, images of local clothing of women and men from the eastern part of the province are also included.
