Unveiling of the Braille Version of the Book “The Voice of Darkness” / “Immortal Tulips” Poetry Night in Mehriz
According to the correspondent of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Yazd, various book and reading events are being held across Yazd province with the participation of public groups and cultural institutions.
Unveiling of the Braille Version of the Book “The Voice of Darkness”
Samaneh Fattahi, head of the visually impaired section of Yazd Central Library, stated at the ceremony: This book was prepared in only three Braille copies, with each copy consisting of two volumes totaling 230 pages.
She described the contents of this book as very useful and interesting for visually impaired individuals and added: The prepared Braille copies will be made available to the visually impaired sections of Yazd Central Library and the cities of Ardakan and Meybod, so that visually impaired enthusiasts of books and reading can benefit from them.
Fattahi also expressed hope at the end that, with the support of the Public Libraries Institution, Braille copies of this book would be prepared and made available to libraries for the visually impaired across the country.
Niloufar Malek, the author of this book, also said at the unveiling ceremony: The subject of this book is derived from an idea that took shape in a meeting with Hamidreza Shahabadi and was mostly written using the four senses in visually impaired people.
She said: Although this book was less seen due to some issues, today I am very pleased to witness the attention of the visually impaired community to this work and its re-publication in Braille.
Malek also addressed the visually impaired at the end, saying: The power of faith is greater than the five senses, so never stop striving.
In a part of this book, which is about the life of Savina, a visually impaired girl, we read: “She wanted to go towards the bed when a strange smell hit her nose. It wasn’t a familiar smell, but it was pleasant. Something like the smell of Annie’s grandfather’s pipe tobacco.
The smell was coming from the right side of the shelves. There was only a wall there, which was behind the door when the room door opened. The wall was one and a half steps from the shelves. Savina instinctively moved towards the wall with open hands. She took two half-steps forward. Suddenly, she heard the sound of the room door’s hinge, and the door closed. Savina flinched and then remained frozen where she stood. The room door never closed by itself. She sharpened her ears. The silence around her frightened her more. She felt her heart had stopped. Her entire being had become ears. She felt a soft movement on the room’s floor, and a shiver ran down her spine.”
