History and Politics Service of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), Siavash Parsamansh – Seyyed Hassan Modarres (1249 SH – 1316 SH) was a Shiite jurist and politician. He was considered one of the prominent scholars of Isfahan during the Constitutional Revolution and supported the constitutionalist movement. Modarres was chosen by the jurists during the second parliamentary term as one of the Mujtahids who, according to the Constitutional Law, were tasked with overseeing the conformity of parliamentary resolutions with Islamic law.

From the third to the sixth terms, he also served four terms as a representative of the people of Tehran in the National Consultative Assembly. During World War I, Modarres formed the ‘National Defense Committee’ and migrated to Qom. He criticized Reza Khan’s actions and resisted him. Eventually, Reza Khan exiled him and martyred him. On the occasion of his martyrdom, December 1st (10 Azar in the Iranian calendar) is named ‘Parliament Day’ in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
