Programs of Iran’s National Library and Archives Organization Announced
According to Mehr News Agency and the announcement by the news headquarters of the 33rd Book Week of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the programs of the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran for the 33rd Book Week are as follows:
Specialized workshops for librarians include information literacy, communication skills, and an introduction to artificial intelligence. For National Library members, workshops cover article writing, thesis writing, and scientific information retrieval. Children and teenagers can attend a “Bookbinding” training workshop, while younger children can learn “Book Protection and Maintenance” at the organization’s children’s library. Publishers are offered a special workshop on “Publishers and Digital Libraries: Challenges and Solutions for Cooperation in Resource Provision.” Newly established publishers and provincial librarians can attend a workshop introducing book and non-book deposit services. Additionally, workshops aim to familiarize participants with documentation methods and guide new publishers through the FIPA registration process during Book Week.
The National Library and Archives Organization of Iran will host specialized sessions on “Standards for the Protection and Maintenance of Books and Documents” and “Paper Science of Manuscripts.” It will also feature a book review and introduction session for “Modern Medicine in Qajar Iran authored by Donya Asgarian” and “Qajar Literacy and Qajar Notebook authored by Mohsen Khalili.” Further, there will be a session with experts discussing challenges in the field of books, reading, and study, alongside presentations by researchers on prominent Iranian authors or translators, utilizing documents from the National Archive.
Programs also include an exhibition of Iranology and reference books acquired at the Tehran International Book Fair 1404; an exhibition of selected foreign travelogue manuscripts to Iran, held both physically at the National Library’s Manuscript Hall and virtually online; an exhibition (in-person and virtual) of selected books from 1403; an in-person documents exhibition titled “Book on the Heights of History”; virtual or mobile exhibitions; an exhibition of book printing contract documents; and an exhibition of book censorship documents.
The organization’s agenda further includes the ‘One Frame, One Document’ gathering; a book donation campaign to various centers within the country, involving National Library librarians; donating books from the exchange repository and to organization colleagues; implementing a book exchange program and encouraging donations from National Library members; a book collection campaign for underprivileged areas; the “Future Library Design Competition”; a comprehensive overview of the National Library of Iran’s activities and services; organized tours of the National Library for members and guests; and a book introduction campaign featuring 30-second clips created by National Library librarians.
Other initiatives include recruiting volunteers to read for visually impaired users; offering free membership to National Library members during Book Week; hosting storytelling events with famous children’s literature authors; organizing programs to introduce underprivileged children to the library environment; recognizing creators of book review podcasts; and honoring top donors, publishers, librarians, and active, outstanding National Library members during the 33rd Book Week.
