Lack of physical space is the main challenge of Yazd National Documents and Library Center.

The head of the National Documents and Library Center of Yazd Province, Mostafa Fatemi, highlighted the severe shortage of physical space as the primary obstacle hindering the center’s operations and expansion.

Speaking at a press conference, Fatemi stated, “Despite our efforts to collect and preserve valuable historical documents and books, our current facility can no longer accommodate the growing volume of acquisitions. This poses a significant threat to the preservation of cultural heritage.”

He emphasized the urgent need for a larger, purpose-built facility to house the center’s extensive collection, which includes rare manuscripts, historical photographs, and contemporary publications.

“We have reached a critical point where without additional space, we will be forced to limit our collection activities, which would be a great loss for researchers and the public alike,” Fatemi added.

The official called upon provincial and national authorities to allocate the necessary budget and resources for the construction of a new building or the expansion of the existing one, stressing the importance of the center as a vital hub for research and cultural preservation in Yazd.

He also mentioned plans to digitize a significant portion of the collection to make it more accessible, but reiterated that physical space for original documents and books remains indispensable.
