Police and Municipality Absent in Securing the National Library Boulevard

Despite the National Library of Iran being a significant cultural hub, the boulevard leading to it suffers from a severe lack of security and adequate lighting, creating an unsafe environment for visitors. This negligence has raised concerns among cultural activists and regular patrons of the library, especially during evening hours.

According to reports, the absence of effective patrols by law enforcement and insufficient attention from municipal authorities to the surrounding area has turned the boulevard into a neglected space. Visitors often express discomfort and fear due to the prevalence of dark spots and the lack of visible security presence.

Calls for Responsibility

Sources within the library administration, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that repeated requests have been made to both the police and the municipality to address these safety concerns. However, little action has been taken to improve the situation. “The National Library is not just a building; it’s a sanctuary for knowledge seekers. Its surroundings must reflect that importance and provide a safe passage for everyone,” an unnamed official commented.

This issue not only affects the safety of individuals but also indirectly impacts the library’s accessibility and its role in promoting reading and culture. Many potential visitors, particularly families and students, might be deterred from visiting due to perceived risks.
