A Study on the Name and Symbol of the Crimson Lake Mahlou Was Published

The book “Daryacheh-ye Mahlou: Nam va Neshan” (Mahlou Lake: Name and Symbol), authored by Kourosh Kamali Sarvestani, the head of the Fars Shenasi Foundation, has been published and released by the foundation’s press.

This book is a research-based work that explores the name and identity of Mahlou Lake throughout history. The author has referenced numerous historical texts, travelogues, and geographical sources to compile and write this book.

In the introduction, Kourosh Kamali Sarvestani writes: “Mahlou Lake is one of the valuable natural heritages of Fars province, situated 25 kilometers east of Shiraz. The name of this lake has been recorded in various forms such as ‘Mahluyeh,’ ‘Mafluyeh,’ and ‘Janfejan.’ Depending on the time of year and the amount of rainfall, the lake’s water level and, consequently, its salt concentration vary. The presence of a specific type of algae in the lake causes its water to appear reddish, earning it the name ‘Crimson Lake.'”

He adds: “This lake, with its diverse ecosystem and unique natural landscapes, holds special significance. Its name is also found in the ghazals of Hafez. The book ‘Mahlou Lake: Name and Symbol’ has been researched and written to provide a comprehensive reference for researchers and enthusiasts interested in the geography and history of Fars.”
