The Abu Raihan Library Building in Shiraz Does Not Have the Capacity for Repairs/ The Municipality Should Replace It

The Director-General of Public Libraries of Fars province stated that the building of the Abu Raihan Library in Shiraz is 70 years old and does not have the capacity for repairs or renovations. He requested the Shiraz municipality to provide a replacement location.

Ruhollah Dehghani told the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) that the Abu Raihan Library is one of the oldest libraries in Shiraz, located in one of the most densely populated areas of the city. He added: “The building’s infrastructure is worn out, and if even a small incident were to occur, a human catastrophe would be unavoidable.”

He emphasized that due to the building’s age, it is not possible to repair, renovate, or strengthen it, and it must be completely demolished and rebuilt.

The Director-General of Public Libraries of Fars stated: “We have repeatedly requested the Shiraz municipality to provide a plot of land to replace the Abu Raihan Library, but unfortunately, this has not been approved by the city council and municipality yet.”

Dehghani continued: “The presence of a standard library in this deprived and densely populated area of Shiraz is a necessity. The Hafez Studies Center and the Saadi Studies Center are located in this library, and with the construction of a new building, we can also expand the activities of these two centers.”
