100 Sensory Books for Visually Impaired Children Restored and Delivered
Zahra Absouran, in an interview with a reporter from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Urmia, referring to the implementation of the national “Book Journey” plan in this province, said: Concurrently with the holding of this plan, a collection of sensory and tactile books specifically for blind and visually impaired children, which previously needed repair, have been restored and rebuilt through the efforts of trainers, teachers, and members of the family council. They are now once again ready to be made available to children with special needs.
Absouran stated that the goal of this cultural initiative is to serve the community of children with special needs. She added: This action has been carried out with the intention of honoring the status of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (S.A.) and is an effort to promote cultural and educational activities among children who experience the world differently.
She spoke about the importance of sensory and tactile books, stating: These types of books, by utilizing raised textures, distinct colors, Braille, and tangible elements, play an effective role in learning various concepts for blind and visually impaired children. Touching images and raised objects in these books helps them establish a more tangible connection with their surroundings and develop imagination and understanding of concepts in a deeper way.
The Director General of the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in the province continued: West Azerbaijan province is the sixth station on the path of implementing the national “Book Journey” plan. After the cities of Urmia and Salmas, it is now Khoy’s turn to host 100 volumes of sensory and tactile books, so that children in this city can also benefit from these works.
Absouran emphasized: Such cultural efforts, in addition to strengthening morale and self-confidence among children with special needs, will lead to the expansion of reading culture and educational equity throughout the province.
