«Dark Calendar» A Warning to Preserve Iran’s Social Capital

Meysam Amiri, author of the book «Dark Calendar», told the reporter of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) about his motivation for writing a book about the 12-day war of Israel against Iran: The reason for writing the book «Dark Calendar» was that I wanted to show that all our hearts beat for Iran, and we must do something so that all Iranians serve Iran and consider themselves effective members of this great nation. Every missile that hit Iran’s soil was like a wound inflicted on my body. I tried not to be indifferent to such a situation. I do not deny the epics of this war, but I consider its sorrow to be a bitter and ugly grief. Alongside this deep wound, the world’s indifference to this barbaric act further darkened my spirit.

He added: In my opinion, a quick narrative of the 12-day war is necessary; provided that it carries sparks of literature with it. That is, instant essays conveyed through narrative that can serve as a guide for analyses that only form over time. I tried to narrate all those war events that someone might not want to recount. The entire work is a kind of informal chronology, but I tried to narrate these events within the relationships between characters. When I look at the book again, I see that I can still be its audience. I might look at my text with narcissism. But I think the narration of this war is still necessary; because we have not yet passed that cycle. Only our phase has changed a little. Israel is mostly waiting to see where the fundamental tensions of governing the country lead; that’s why it is waiting.

The author of the book «Dark Calendar», referring to the technological war in Israel’s attack on Iran, stated: The 12-day war of Israel against Iran was a very closed war. Israel has a very strict and closed system, and we practically cannot understand what this criminal group is doing. We know nothing about the war and will not know for now. Many ordinary people could see previous wars with their own eyes, but here there is no such news. Everything has been kept away from our senses due to technological advancements.

Amiri continued: I tried to know many things. I also spoke with some people. But they did not tell me all they knew, and a large part of what they said was not transferable. I spoke with a military officer; he spoke uniquely. But I could not quote eighty percent of what he said. I can only say that our security situation has not changed much compared to July 3rd (the day the war ended) until now. In the book «Dark Calendar», my goal was to chronicle events and issue a warning: Keep Iranians for Iran. Iranians must preserve this country. We must bring forth a power that cannot be destroyed by missiles. Part of this power still exists. We must develop social capital.
