National Conference on Theoretical and Epistemological Foundations of Iranology
According to a reporter from Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), the ‘National Conference on Theoretical and Epistemological Foundations of Iranology’ will be held by the Faculty of Literature and Humanities.
Defining ‘Iran’ as a subject of knowledge (geographical, mythological, civilizational, cultural Iran), Iranology as a holistic and contextual knowledge or a multidisciplinary science?, The nature and reason for Iranian Iranology, The difference between Iranian Iranology and Iranology in Iran, The relationship of Iranian Iranology with Iranian identity and life, The Iranian world: abstract or concrete existence, Characteristics of the Iranian subject, The relationship of Iranology with other human sciences (history, literature, anthropology, philosophy, etc.), The evolution of the legal concept of Iran, Non-Iranian Iranology: encounters, presuppositions, prejudices, and strategies for indigenizing the knowledge of Iranology are among the conference’s themes.
The conference will begin with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the playing of the national anthem. Following this, we will hear speeches by Javad Asghari, Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities, Shahram Yousefifar, Research Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities, and a report by Behzad Karimi, Scientific Secretary of the conference.
First Session: The Necessity of Iranian Iranology with speeches by Asghar Dadbeh, Hossein Mesbahian, Dariush Rahmanian, and Saman Ghasemi Firouzabadi, moderated by Behzad Karimi.
Second Session: On the Nature of Iranology in Iran with speeches by Jahangir Moeini Alamdari, Roozbeh Zarinkoub, Mansour Safatgol, and Seyyed Mohammad Beheshti, moderated by Shahram Yousefifar.
Third Session: Indigenous Iranology; Strategies and Lived Experience with speeches by Seyyed Amir Tavakkolisabour, Morteza Farhadi, Zagros Zand, Meysam Labafkhaniki, and Abdolrasoul Kheirandish (video playback), moderated by Omid Ghiasi.
Fourth Session: The Outlook of Iranology in Iran with speeches by Behzad Karimi, Seyyed Mohammad Beheshti, Ahmadreza Ghaemmaghami, Saman Ghasemi Firouzabadi, Goodarz Rashtiani, and Shahram Yousefifar.
The conference will be held on November 15, 2025, at 8:30 AM at the University of Tehran, Faculty of Literature and Humanities. Admission is free and open to the public.
