19 Library Construction Projects Underway in South Khorasan
Ali Zohouri, head of the Public Libraries Department of South Khorasan, in an interview with a correspondent from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Birjand, announced that 19 cultural infrastructure projects are underway across various cities in the province. These projects, aimed at developing cultural facilities and promoting cultural equity, span a total area of 19,200 square meters. An estimated 396 billion Tomans is required for their completion.
Zohouri highlighted several key projects: the construction of the 11,000 square meter provincial central library in Birjand; the Qayen central library, which is 55% complete with an area of 2,950 square meters; the Qalamchi Public Library in Ferdows city, 65% complete with an area of 1,500 square meters; and the charity-funded Hajjiabad library, also 55% complete.
He added that other projects, including the establishment of new libraries in Esfashad and Gazik, and the completion of the Shahid Sharifnia Public Library in Esfandyar Tabas, the Shahid Mohammad Hossein Gholami Library in Houder Eshqabad, and the West Nehbandan Library, are all in various stages of implementation.
Zohouri noted that some of these initiatives are advancing with the valuable participation of benevolent philanthropists, particularly projects in Ferdows, Qayen, Aysk, and Hajjiabad Birjand, which show favorable physical progress.
Emphasizing the crucial need for adequate funding to expedite project completion, he affirmed: “We are committed to collaborating with executive agencies, securing provincial funds, and attracting cultural philanthropists to complete these projects as swiftly as possible, ensuring that the people of South Khorasan benefit from improved reading facilities and cultural activities.”
