The Role of Libraries Needs Reimagining

According to a reporter from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), the press conference of the Public Libraries Institution of the country, held on the occasion of the 33rd Book Week of the Islamic Republic of Iran, took place on Sunday (November 9) at the headquarters building of the Public Libraries Institution.

During this meeting, Azadeh Nazarboland, the Secretary General of the Public Libraries Institution, explained the institution’s programs for Book Week, stating: “Currently, the Public Libraries Institution of the country is at the beginning of its third decade of independent activity, pursuing a new approach under two concepts: ‘improving service delivery’ and ‘access to various resources.’ These aspects include the services of the Public Libraries Institution, the use of space and users of public libraries, as well as the approach of reimagining the role of libraries and transforming them into cultural and social centers. In fact, under this approach, we will not have a membership and lending space; rather, the library will transform into a space for cultural interaction.”

She added: “Redesigning the physical space and effectively utilizing it entails the concept of expanding services; in other words, we consider the Public Libraries Institution of the country as a service provider center and identify the intended service points.”
