A Specialized Dictionary of Chahar Maqaleh Terms Published
According to a reporter from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), Roya Golahmadi, in her book ‘A Specialized Dictionary of Terms and Expressions of Chahar Maqaleh by Nizami Aruzi’, recently published by Padina Publishing, has compiled important words and terms from Nizami Aruzi’s ‘Chahar Maqaleh’ that have lexical value. She has provided their phonetic Latin transliteration alongside them, along with their meanings and the specialized fields of application for these words and terms.
The author states in a section of the book’s introduction: ‘For scholars of language and literature and those familiar with ancient texts in any language, it is quite clear that every language, throughout its history, is constantly subject to change and evolution, and a major part of these changes occurs in the realm of specialized vocabulary and terminology. The meaning of words changes in different ways, according to the continuous transformations of life, social relations, and the interactions of one nation with various other nations. Some words disappear from the linguistic scene, while others are newly born according to current circumstances. Still others, while preserving their existence in the language, acquire new meanings and uses. It is here that a correct and solid understanding of historical, identity, and national elements compels a language researcher to record these changes and the diachronic uses of words, and indeed, the necessity of compiling “dictionaries of words and terms” specifically for texts begins from this point.’
