According to the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), in the first half of the fifth Hijri century, epic poems about love and lovers were composed in the eastern lands of Iran, indicating the emergence of something that is generally called lyrical poetry or romance in Persian literature today.

However, in terms of theoretical and scientific principles, serious attention has not been paid to this genre and the role of these early epic poems in it as it should have been. The book “The Poetics of Romantic Love,” by focusing on the romantic epic poem Vis and Rāmin, attempts to compensate for these shortcomings and, by raising new issues and hidden aspects of the romance genre, provides precise information about romantic love.

This book demonstrates how Vis and Rāmin and similar texts became powerful tools that could address complex issues concerning humanity and its place in society.

Cameron Cross is an American author and Iranologist who became acquainted with Iran and the Shahnameh in his youth. After learning Persian, he studied Iranology at the University of Chicago. He published this book in 2015 under the original title “THE POETICS OF ROMANTIC LOVE IN VIS & RĀMIN,” and its Persian version is now also available.

“The Poetics of Romantic Love” by Cameron Cross, translated by Nima Zaheri, has been published in 640 pages by Khwarazmi Publications.
