A Child Author Must Observe Psychological Principles in Their Works
According to the reporter of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Urmia, Mohammad Ali Ziaei, at the unveiling ceremony of the book “Sweet Memories of a Sixties Generation” written by Maryam Khalifa at the Central Library of Urmia, stated: “Working in the field of children’s and young adult literature is more difficult than working for adults. This is due to the limitations and specific characteristics of this age group, which makes the work more challenging for authors. A child author must carefully observe the subtleties and psychological points of a child in their works so that the child and young adult audience can establish a proper connection with their work, and this requires a lot of patience and dedication in writing.”
Ziaei added: “In recent years, we have witnessed a growing number of female authors and poets in the field of local literature of the province, and this signals an improvement in the level of literature in West Azarbaijan province. Ms. Khalifa is one of the successful examples of female authors in the province.”
He stated: “The tenderness and maternal emotions are palpable in this book, and the author has skillfully utilized these characteristics in the text, making this book readable and engaging for children and young adults. The 1980s, due to its many contradictory features, is a special period in our country’s history, and those who experienced that era are a unique generation of Iranians.”
Ziaei further added: “The social characteristics of that era, such as nobility, purity, simplicity, and contentment, which prevailed in people’s lives, are beautifully depicted in the story, imparting a very tender and lovely atmosphere to the book’s text.”
A Child and Young Adult Author Must Adhere to Ethical Principles
Mostafa Gholizadeh Aliyar, Secretary of the Hatef Literary Society of Urmia, also said at the ceremony: “A child and young adult author must adhere to ethical principles and observe society’s red lines in their text and content, which Ms. Khalifa has successfully done with her writing.”
Maryam Khalifa, the author of the work, while thanking the attendees, said: “Her goal in writing this book and her other works is to make children happy and teach them new things, because she believes that all children deserve joy and peace.”
The books “Lemon Scent”, “Grandma’s New House”, “Stories of Kindness”, “I Have a Wish”, and “My Dear Friend, I Understand You” are among the works of Maryam Khalifa, an author, illustrator, and book publisher in the field of children’s and young adult literature.
