We have passed the peak of the crisis, but Reza Amirkhani’s treatment process is time-consuming

According to Khabaronline News Agency, Dr. Ashtiani says that what happened to Reza Amirkhani resembles a widespread fire that first damages core structures, then emergency systems intervene to contain the crisis. He explained that after a severe and widespread blow to the brain, the body’s immune system actively engages and, while containing primary damage, can also create secondary complications.

Referring to ‘cerebral edema,’ he stated: This complication is a natural consequence of the immune system’s reaction to brain injury. In such conditions, inflammation reaches its peak, disrupting normal body functions. According to him, the third to fifth days after the injury are usually considered the peak crisis for brain injuries, and the medical team focuses on controlling cerebral edema and preventing secondary complications during this phase.

Dr. Ashtiani added: Fortunately, this critical phase has passed without serious secondary complications, but the inflammation process has not fully subsided, and the immune system is still active. Therefore, we have not yet reached complete stability in the overall function of the body, organs, and nervous system.

He emphasized that reaching a stable level of consciousness and general body stability requires time, and rapid, multi-day improvements should not be expected. Dr. Ashtiani asked people to adjust their expectations by understanding the gradual nature of this treatment process and to continue praying for Reza Amirkhani and other patients.

Reza Amirkhani suffered serious injuries in a paragliding accident on Sunday afternoon, 9th of Azar, and has been in the intensive care unit of Kasra Hospital ever since.

Khabaronline News Agency hopes this well-known author and literary critic recovers soon and rises from his sickbed.
