Dostoevsky and the wish to reduce human suffering
The book “Nights of White Lights and Five Other Stories” is one of the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, a famous author of Russian literature, which is available in the Iranian publishing market. This book has been offered with a translation by Parviz Hemmatian Boroujeni. Hemmatian Boroujeni is a translator who is interested in classic European literature, and this translation was printed in 2007 by Amirkabir Publications and is currently available in the market with its ninth edition.
In the story “The Meek One,” the reader faces psychological suffering and torture inflicted by a man on his wife. “The Coward” is also the story of two close friends, one of whom is a secretary and responsible for transcribing administrative orders, but due to intense anxiety and fear of not completing the transcript ordered by the boss, he goes mad and is hospitalized. His beloved fiancée also marries another man and has a child.
