Implementation of the provincial plan “Mosque, Book, Awakening” in over 50 mosques in Yazd city
Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Yahya Najm al-Hoda, in an interview with the correspondent of the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Yazd, referring to the educational and training measures centered on mosques and their cultural-artistic centers in the province, said: “In order to train a book-reading and informed generation and also to create a movement of books and reading in mosques, the “Mosque, Book, Awakening” plan is being implemented by the Coordination Headquarters for Cultural and Artistic Centers of Mosques in Yazd province.”
He added: “This plan started in October in the mosques of Yazd city, and so far more than 50 mosques in the province have registered for this plan, and it is being implemented in more than 35 centers.”
The director of the Coordination Headquarters for Cultural and Artistic Centers of Mosques in Yazd continued: “In this plan, with the voluntary participation of committed forces in mosques and neighborhoods, and with a localized approach, reading programs and circles have been formed, through which we promote books and reading with the mosque at its core.”
Najm al-Hoda stated: “The target audience of this plan includes mosque activists interested in the field of books, mosque worshipers, and the general residents of the neighborhoods, which is organized into four main axes: ‘Formation and Familiarity’, ‘Promotion and Dissemination’, ‘Provision and Distribution’, and ‘Analysis and Deepening’.”
He elaborated on the executive formats of the plan and clarified: “This plan includes holding reading circles for various age groups, thematic training workshops, book tables and book lending stations, artistic activities such as storytelling, illustration and painting, media productions like podcasts and clips, and also book-centered social campaigns.” Najm al-Hoda further referred to the overarching goals of this plan and added: “Promoting the culture of reading within the mosque and local community with a popular and spontaneous approach, expanding familiarity with books among teenagers and women as key pillars of cultural growth, training and empowering committed and informed forces to guide intellectual and cultural movements in neighborhoods, transforming the mosque into a base for disseminating knowledge and thought, strengthening the religious, revolutionary, and social identity of teenagers and women, and creating diversity in book-centered models are among the main goals of this plan.” The director of the Coordination Headquarters for Cultural and Artistic Centers of Mosques in Yazd province expressed hope: “We can guide mosques in this plan towards promoting books and reading so that we have an informed and book-reading society in the future.”
