Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Authors?
According to Khabaronline News Agency, ISNA reported: Based on a new report published by Cambridge University, more than half of the novelists who have published their works in Britain believe that artificial intelligence will eventually completely replace them.
The Guardian wrote that this new research reveals widespread concern about the speed and extent of AI’s progress in the world of literature.
This study evaluated 258 novelists whose works have been published and 74 figures in the publishing sector, including editors. 51% of novelists stated that AI will probably completely replace them in their work. Many participants in this study reported that their works have been used without permission to train large language models, and 39% of them also reported that their income has decreased as a result of generative AI. A large number of authors also expect their income to decrease even further.
Dr. Clementine Colette, the author of this research, said: “There is widespread concern among novelists that generative AI, which has been trained on a large number of fictional literary works, questions the value of writing and competes with human novelists.”
