Academy’s Response to Nima’s Son’s Statements

According to Khabar Online News Agency, citing ISNA, Sharagim Yooshij, son of Nima Yooshij, addressed certain issues concerning the works, manuscripts, and legacy of the ‘father of modern Persian poetry’ in a memo, stating: ‘The Academy claims that I sold all of my father’s works to them, granting full publishing rights… I swear by the noble memory of great Nima that the majority of Nima’s manuscripts, which are currently with the Academy of Language, were not entrusted to them by me.’

Now, the Persian Academy of Language and Literature has responded in a communiqué to Sharagim Yooshij’s statements: ‘On November 12, 2025 (Aban 21, 1404 HS), a memo by Mr. Sharagim titled ‘What was Nima’s Legacy and What Became of It?’ was published by ISNA news agency. Some of his claims in the November 12, 2025 memo are similar to those he made in a memo titled ‘The Challenge Over Nima’s Legacy,’ published by ISNA on November 27, 2018 (Azar 6, 1397 HS), where he claimed that he had not sold certain types of manuscripts of the late Nima to the Persian Academy of Language and Literature. At that time, the Persian Academy of Language and Literature refuted his false claims by presenting documents such as the minutes of the unconditional transfer of a portion of Nima Yooshij’s remaining documents and the Academy’s accounting ledger. ISNA news agency published the Academy’s response on November 28, 2018 (Azar 7, 1397 HS) with the headline ‘Academy Refutes Nima Yooshij’s Son’s Claim.’ It is worth noting that the minutes of the manuscript transfer state that the exclusive right to any exploitation of these documents, which were purchased from his son and legal heir, Sharagim Yooshij, would belong to the Academy. The accounting ledger also states that Sharagim Yooshij received fifty million Rials from the Academy on November 15, 1994 (Aban 24, 1373 HS) for the sale of his father’s documents, and his signature is visible on this document.’
