1.2 Million Volume Book Treasure Unveiled in Semnan Public Libraries
According to Khabaronline News Agency, Semnan Province, Saeed Dehghanloo, Director-General of Semnan Province Public Libraries, during a meeting with the family of Martyr Qodratollah Haratian and in the presence of Alireza Nouchinasar, Governor of Damghan, considered the transmission of the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom through the compilation and publication of books as one of the most effective methods for future generations to become acquainted with the lifestyle and conduct of martyrs.
Dehghanloo emphasized the necessity of documenting the memories, wills, and lives of the martyrs, stating: “The recording of these works is considered a valuable heritage for the national and religious culture of the country and can connect future generations with an important part of the history of the Iranian people’s resistance.”
Referring to the high status of martyrs’ families, he said: “The fathers and mothers of martyrs are cultural and social pillars of society, and their influential role in shaping the national and religious identity of the country should be explained by preserving and recreating their memories.”
The Director-General of Semnan Province Public Libraries referred to the collection of public libraries in the province, stating: “Currently, over 1.2 million volumes of books are kept in Semnan Public Libraries, a significant portion of which is dedicated to works related to martyrs and the Sacred Defense.”
He added: “Equipping libraries, developing thematic sections, and creating diverse cultural services with the aim of attracting more enthusiasts to reading spaces are on the agenda.”
Dehghanloo continued: “The per capita reading rate in Semnan province is more favorable than the national average, and this indicates the commitment of the culture-loving people of Semnan to books and reading.” He also emphasized the implementation of creative cultural projects to attract young people and increase public participation in libraries.
Further in the meeting, Alireza Nouchinasar, Governor of Damghan, also referred to the effective role of libraries in promoting public culture, stating: “There are 12 active libraries in Damghan county, most of which are named after the revered martyrs of this county.”
He added: “More than 6,000 people in Damghan are members of public libraries, and this level of participation indicates the valuable place of books in the lives of the people of this region.”
The Governor of Damghan recalled: “Throughout the year, various reading programs are held in this county, and efforts are being made to develop these activities quantitatively and qualitatively.”
