Jahangiri’s Account of His Meeting with the Leader Regarding the Reformists’ Relationship with Him / What Expression Did the Leader Use for Khatami?
According to Khabaronline News Agency, in the book ‘In the Thought of Iran,’ which Eshaq Jahangiri recounts the events of 8 years as first vice president in two governments of Hassan Rouhani, it is stated:
One night after the passing of the late Hashemi Rafsanjani, in late 2016, a meeting was held in Jamaran. Mr. Khatami, Mousavi Khoeiniha, Abdollah Nouri, and I were present. One of the topics raised in that meeting was related to the relationship between the Reformists and the Leader. Friends in the meeting said that during the lifetime of the late Hashemi, if we had a point of view regarding the Reformists or the administration of the country, we would convey it to the Leader through the late Hashemi, and this path should somehow be revived after Mr. Hashemi’s passing. In that meeting, they asked me to convey this issue to the Leader regarding who should take on this role. I requested a meeting that same week; the Leader gave me an appointment, and I went to him and gave detailed explanations. I said that our friends ultimately expect to be able to communicate with you and express their views. There, I spoke about Mr. Khatami and my affection for him, and conveyed other points.
