Book Week in Yazd with 500 Cultural Events / Reopening of 2 Libraries in Ardekan and Mehriz
According to the correspondent of Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Yazd, Mohammad Mohsen Rafiee, Director General of Public Libraries of Yazd Province, announced on Tuesday morning at the Book Week press conference the inauguration of the first mobile library in Yazd county and the second mobile library in the province, with the presence of the Secretary-General of the Public Libraries Institution, to provide services to villages and less privileged areas.
He added: The second phase of Yazd Central Library has been put into operation with a cost of over 16 billion Tomans.
The Director General of Public Libraries also announced the reopening of Ayatollah Haeri Library in Ardekan with 2500 members and Imam Hadi (AS) Library in Mehriz, and referred to the third biennial national storytelling competition ‘Nahal Omid’, in which three representatives from Yazd province achieved top ranks.
Rafiee referred to the unveiling and introduction of the book ‘Fellow Traveler of Fire and Snow’ with the presence of the spouse of martyr Ghahari Saeed, and said: Since the beginning of this year, three thousand volumes of books have been purchased and over 38 thousand donated books have been received.
He announced the implementation of the ‘Knowledge Donation’ plan from November 11th to 21st, in which fellow provincials can donate their surplus books to public libraries.
He added: This week, a plan to waive overdue book return fines and nationwide membership will be implemented starting November 15th.
Rafiee, referring to the allocation of 10 billion Tomans from the budget of the Supreme Leader’s visit for the central library, said: A part of the library premises has been renovated, and new budget is needed to complete the remaining sections.
He considered the successful implementation of the ‘Reading Bell and Hour’ in 37 selected public schools as one of this year’s programs, and said: In this plan, instead of Persian and essay class, librarians are present in schools focusing on teaching correct study methods, storytelling, and loud reading.
The Director General of Public Libraries of the province announced the selection of three villages, Nasrabad, Esmatabad, and Esfandabad, as book-friendly villages, and added: Among the most important programs of Book Week are the unveiling of several book titles including ‘Fellow Traveler of Fire and Snow’, ‘My Lost Island’, ‘Cambrian Treasures’ by Hojjat al-Islam Mozaffar Salari and a new book by Morteza Fattahi, holding the final of the Book Play Cup, a specialized storytelling training course, and the start of the ‘Master of Love’ reading competition.
He stated that over 500 programs will be held during Book Week in Yazd province, and added: The province needs 12 mobile libraries, and providing each vehicle costs about 6 billion Tomans. If book resources are provided by philanthropists, the Libraries Institution will be ready to provide the other part of the costs.
