Hossein Barati, in an interview with a reporter from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Ahvaz, stated that this year’s slogan ‘Let’s Read for Iran’ has been chosen for the 33rd Iran Book Week. He noted that books play a crucial role as one of the important tools in promoting culture, knowledge, public awareness, and in the growth and development of society, and that efforts should be made to hold book promotion programs throughout the year, not just during Book Week.

The secretary of the 33rd Iran Book Week in Khuzestan said that the social, economic, and cultural progress of any society depends on the level of awareness of its individuals, and for society to become interested in reading, book-centric events need to be implemented.

Barati added: This General Directorate, like previous years, has planned programs for this Book Week in Ahvaz and other cities, such as holding book exhibitions, visiting bookstores, setting up book donation stations in squares and neighborhoods, donating books to child and adolescent patients in hospitals, and joyful marches to donate books to people in deprived areas of the province.

He also listed other Book Week programs: launching new publications, book review hubs in bookstores across the province, organizing book and reading competitions, implementing a book discussion initiative, holding writing workshops with prominent figures in poetry and fiction, and staging the poetry night ‘One Hundred Ruby Grains’ (Sad Dane Yaghoot).

The Director General of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Khuzestan added: Meeting with top authors and honoring them, implementing the ‘Immortal Pens’ project (meeting with the respected families of martyred authors and activists), holding storytelling and reading sessions, implementing the ‘Book Passerby’ project, a conference honoring printing and publishing industry activists, and holding a series of poetry nights ‘Paradise Without a Sign’ (Behesht Bi Neshan) specifically for the days of martyrdom of Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her), coinciding with Book Week and Fatimieh days, are among the programs of the General Directorate of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Khuzestan during Book Week.
