According to the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), the book ‘Resistance of Weeds to Herbicides’, compiled and authored by Hossein Najafi, a faculty member of the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection, and Kamran Roudbar Makouei, an expert at the institute, has been released in 176 pages by the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) Publications.

The book is composed of 6 chapters titled ‘General Information’, ‘Mechanism of Action of Herbicides’, ‘Resistance to Herbicides’, ‘Methods for Studying Resistance to Herbicides’, ‘Management of Weed Resistance to Herbicides’, and ‘Chemical Control of Resistant Weeds’.

In the book’s introduction, we read: ‘The chemical control of weeds is considered a great revolution in modern agriculture, which has enabled large-scale farming. Unfortunately, the continuous and widespread use of herbicides with the same mechanism of action has ultimately led to the natural selection of herbicide-resistant populations. Currently, weed resistance to herbicides is one of the most significant challenges to sustainable agricultural production in the world and in Iran.’

The introduction continues: ‘To date, resistant biotypes of 267 weed species (155 dicots and 112 monocots) to herbicides have been reported from 71 countries worldwide. These biotypes have shown resistance to 165 different herbicides from 21 mechanisms of action out of the 31 known mechanisms. The number of resistant weed species in Iran is 13, of which the resistance of 9 species has been confirmed.’

The first printing of the book ‘Resistance of Weeds to Herbicides’ in 176 pages, with a print run of 300 copies and a price of 150,000 Tomans, has been made available to interested readers by the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) Publications.
