Publication of the biography of the jurist who issued the ijtihad permit for the late Imam

The biography of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, the great Marja’ of the Shia world and founder of the Qom seminary, has been published and released by the Islamic Research Foundation of Astan Quds Razavi.

Seyyed Mostafa Hosseini Ardakani, the author of the book “The Profound Jurist; Biography of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi,” stated: “This work is the result of years of effort, utilizing new sources and documents from his noble house, as well as interviews with his esteemed children, some of whom are no longer with us.”

He added: “Another feature of this book is its comprehensive look at the life of Ayatollah Haeri, examining his social and political activities alongside his scholarly and jurisprudential life. The book discusses how he revived the Qom seminary and elevated it to a level where he could issue a certificate of ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) for the late Imam Khomeini.”

The book “The Profound Jurist; Biography of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi” is organized into three sections: “From Birth to Migration to Arak,” “From Migration to Arak to the Founding of the Qom Seminary,” and “From the Founding of the Qom Seminary to His Passing.” Each section contains several chapters.

The first section covers topics such as his lineage, birth, and the start of his education. The second section details his migration to Arak and the establishment of its seminary, his journey to Mashhad and meeting with Sheikh Fazlollah Nouri, and his opposition to the Constitutional Revolution. The third section addresses the establishment of the Qom seminary, his management of it, and the political and social events of his time.

This 448-page book has been published in a print run of 300 copies by the Islamic Research Foundation of Astan Quds Razavi and is available to interested readers.
