The Seventh Tehran Short Film Studies Conference has taken an important step towards the scientific and research review of adaptation in this field by announcing the names of the selected articles. This conference, held with the focus on adaptation in short film, began by receiving 118 article abstracts and essays from researchers. After reviews and evaluations by the conference’s scientific council, 53 abstracts were shortlisted from among the 118 submitted abstracts. Finally, after additional evaluations, 16 articles were selected for presentation on the conference floor and publication in the collection of articles.

The Seventh Tehran Short Film Studies Conference addresses the specialized study of adaptation in short film with a scientific-research approach. The goal of holding this conference is to exchange views and improve knowledge in this field. Given the time constraints in short film, adapting literary or dramatic texts presents specific challenges. This conference seeks to examine specific approaches in the adaptation process, including selective choice, summarization and abbreviation, changes in point of view and narrative, and the use of visual and symbolic language in short film adaptation.

This scientific event aims to build a bridge between theory and practice in the field of adaptation, bringing researchers and filmmakers together to answer questions about the role of new theories in understanding adaptation and how filmmakers’ experiences influence theories. It should be noted that the offices of Youth Cinema also have an active presence in this conference and support the production of adapted short films.

The main topics of the Seventh Tehran Short Film Studies Conference are:

  • Free adaptation in Iranian cinema
  • The link between inspiration, influence, and adaptation
  • The relationship between reconstruction and adaptation
  • Adaptation from non-fictional works and national/local tales of Iran
  • Adaptation from religious texts
  • Adaptation in short film from a legal and ethical perspective
  • Formalist and postmodern approaches in cinematic adaptation
  • Adaptation from classical and contemporary literature; challenges and possibilities
  • Adaptation in short documentary film
  • Adaptation and narrative in experimental short film
  • The role of new technologies in the cinematic adaptation process
  • Analysis of successful adaptation examples in Iranian and world short film

The “Seventh Tehran Short Film Studies Conference,” with Ramtin Shahbazi as scientific secretary, is held with the aim of examining different aspects of adaptation in short cinema, including free adaptations, inspiration, influence, and creative reconstructions.
