Fani’s academic legacy is a guide for future generations

According to the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), quoting the public relations department of the Iran Book and Literature House, Ebrahim Heidari wrote the following message of condolence on the passing of Kamran Fani, a prominent contemporary writer, translator, and bibliographer:

“To God we belong, and to Him we return.

The passing of Master Kamran Fani, a renowned writer, translator, and bibliographer, is a great loss for the culture of Iran. He dedicated his blessed life to establishing and supervising encyclopedias, founding modern methods of librarianship and reference writing, and translating prominent global works, thereby strengthening the pillars of the written culture of this land.

Kamran Fani opened a new window to knowledge and literature by supervising reference projects such as the Encyclopedia of Shiism and the Encyclopedia for Children and Adolescents, and by translating works of authors such as Chekhov and Dostoevsky. His services will remain in the minds and languages of different generations interested in books.

The Iran Book and Literature House considers the loss of this cultured figure a great sorrow and regards his academic legacy as a guide for future generations. I ask the Almighty God for divine mercy and forgiveness for the departed soul, and I extend my condolences to all the people of Iran, especially the cultural and literary community, for this great loss. It is good to remember the words of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who said: ‘The death of a scholar is an irreparable calamity.’ Undoubtedly, the passing of Master Kamran Fani was also an irreparable calamity for the culture and knowledge of this land.

Ebrahim Heidari, CEO of Iran Book and Literature House”
