How does artificial intelligence commit suicide?
According to Khabaronline, Naomi Baron, a linguistics professor at American University who has researched the impact of technology on reading for years, warns: “A perfect storm is brewing for reading. Artificial intelligence arrived just as children and adults were already spending less time reading books.”
As reported by ISNA, national statistics from the US National Assessment of Educational Progress show that the number of fourth-grade students who read for pleasure almost every day has decreased from 53% in 1984 to 39% in 2022. For eighth-grade students, the situation is more disastrous; it has fallen from 35% in 1984 to just 14% in 2023.
In England, a 2024 National Literacy Trust survey revealed that only one-third of teenagers aged 8 to 18 enjoy reading in their leisure time; a decrease of nearly 9 percentage points compared to the previous year.
