Book Week: An Opportunity to Reconnect the University with the Culture of Reading
Adel Sioosmardeh, congratulating on Book and Reading Week and on the occasion of the book exhibition at Kurdistan University, told a reporter from the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Sanandaj: “Books are the light of knowledge and the foundation of the country’s cultural and scientific development.”
He stated that the university’s central library plays a pivotal role in learning and research, adding: “Book Week is not just a calendar event for us; it’s an opportunity for the university to revitalize the reading environment and connect students more than ever with the cultural life of books.”
The President of Kurdistan University referred to the Book Week programs at the university and added: “From November 15th to 21st, various programs are planned at the university, each part of our approach to cultural development; from Book and New Technologies Day to Book Touring, Book and Family, and Book, Student, and Scholar Day.”
Sioosmardeh added: “Holding a book exhibition from November 15th to 19th in Molavi Hall is one of the most important events this week, and our effort has been to make new publications available to academics with special discounts.”
He added: “The scientific and cultural campaign ‘Book in Motion,’ which is being held this year in cooperation with the National Library of Iran, is one of our impactful programs, through which each participant can receive two free books and, after reading them, pass them on to others. This act symbolizes the free circulation of ideas and keeping the reading cycle alive.”
The President of Kurdistan University announced the ‘Cup of Writers’ book competition and the assessment of academics’ literary knowledge as other programs of the university’s Book Week, adding: “This competition, focusing on general information about authors and literary works, will be held on November 18th.”
Sioosmardeh stated that their goal is to provide a scientific and engaging environment for literature enthusiasts; he also said: “For this competition, 50 multiple-choice questions have been designed, including 40 common questions and 10 specialized Persian or Kurdish questions.”
He announced that the bibliography file of story and novel books available in the central library has been provided to participants as a supplementary resource, and certificates of appreciation and gift cards have been considered for the top participants.
Emphasis on Academics’ Participation in Cultural Activities
The President of Kurdistan University invited all students to participate in the programs, saying: “The academic community is vibrant when, alongside education and research, it also pays attention to culture. We ask all academics to actively participate in these programs so that together we can build a more aware and dynamic society.”
He concluded by thanking the central library, the Book and Reading Club, the Cultural Deputy, and other university clubs and institutions for their cooperation in designing and implementing the Book Week programs.
