According to the reporter of the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) in Yasuj, Mohsen Jabbarnejad stated on Tuesday afternoon at a press conference held for Book Week: During this period, over 500 cultural programs will be implemented across the province, including the unveiling of new books, poetry reading sessions, visits with martyrs’ families, honoring activists in the field of books and reading, and social programs such as dusting martyrs’ tombs and participating in Friday prayers.

He referred to the importance of the role of public libraries in the digital age, saying: While the digital world and social networks have expanded significantly, nothing will replace books.

Jabbarnejad added: The public libraries of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province currently include 69 institutional and participatory libraries, with over 40,000 active members. Our effort is to launch mobile libraries for better access to remote and nomadic areas of the province.

Jabbarnejad continued by referring to the development of library infrastructure, saying: About one thousand square meters of new library space in the province is ready for operation. These spaces include study halls, special sections for children, galleries, and periodical areas, and complementary projects will be inaugurated soon.

He specified: One of the special programs for Book Week will be a provincial commemoration ceremony on November 19 (Aban 28), Wednesday, at 9 AM, where new construction projects will be inaugurated, and a cooperation agreement with the Friday Prayer Headquarters will also be signed.

The Director-General of Public Libraries of the province referred to continuous efforts to promote the culture of reading and said: Despite the growth of technology and social networks, books still hold a special place in people’s lives and cannot be replaced by any other medium. Our goal is to institutionalize the culture of reading in society.

Jabbarnejad noted: To mark Book Week, membership in public libraries will be free for low-income segments; also, overdue book fines will be waived this week.
