A Book to Introduce Children to the Feeling of Shyness
Doris is a red elephant who doesn’t like to be seen. Besides being very shy, she also doesn’t feel good about her red color and thinks this difference should cause her to hide from others. That’s why she constantly hides among flowers, among fish, and anywhere full of color so no one can see her.
This is the story of the book ‘Doris; The Elephant Who Didn’t Want to Be Seen,’ which addresses the issue of shyness. The message the book aims to convey is: why should people be shy? Doris ultimately comes to terms with her differences and appears on the pages of the book.
In the book, Doris speaks to the reader in a childlike and imaginative way; for example, she asks them to turn the page faster because she doesn’t want to be seen, but at the end of the book, she honks, inviting the reader to continue reading.
The book also tries to convey that if we are shy, any way we find to hide will be temporary, and a day will come when we must appear in public. So, it’s better to accept our differences and anything that makes us shy, and to love ourselves with confidence.
The book ‘Doris: The Elephant Who Didn’t Want to Be Seen’ was written and illustrated by Lou Coleh. ‘Ketab-e Che,’ the publisher of children’s and young adult books from the Cheshmeh cultural family, has made it available to enthusiasts with Niloufar Keshtiary’s translation for 160,000 Tomans.
