Kamran Fani Hospitalized
According to a Mehr reporter, Kamran Fani has been hospitalized again. To inquire about his physical condition, we spoke with Foroodeh Arbabi, one of his family friends.
Arbabi said: “Unfortunately, the master’s condition is not good. Last night, around ten-thirty, I went to visit him. As you know, some time ago, after being discharged from the hospital, he was transferred to a nursing home. There, due to old age and a history of malnutrition, his general condition was not very good, which led to his re-hospitalization. In my opinion, his initial discharge was premature because he was clearly improving in the hospital: he was talking, walking with the help of a nurse, and eating. But after discharge, the situation changed.”
She added: “His weight had significantly decreased before the first hospitalization, and he was suffering from dehydration and malnutrition. Doctors also confirmed this. In the nursing home, although it was one of the top-tier centers in Tehran, limited mobility, sitting, and walking led to urinary and lung infections.”
She continued: “During my frequent visits – as I visit him every other day – I noticed the worsening of his condition and on Sunday, I informed the officials of the National Library that he should be immediately transferred to the hospital. Unfortunately, this transfer was delayed. Finally, he was re-hospitalized on Monday.”
In response to whether his condition is better now compared to previous days, Arbabi said: “Slightly better, but his general condition is still not good. Last night I saw that he has no motor ability. Yesterday morning, a feeding tube was inserted nasally for him. Some essential supplies were also not provided to him. Of course, professors and doctors are trying, but I believe more special care should be given.”
Regarding her acquaintance with Kamran Fani, she said: “My acquaintance with him dates back about forty years; through the late Bijan Jalali, who was a close family friend of ours. My husband Mohammad Bardbar and Mr. Baha’uddin Khorramshahi were also present in those literary gatherings, and our connection with Master Fani was formed from that era. For this reason, when I learned about his condition, I felt it my duty to follow up on his well-being. Master Fani is an important part of the cultural and literary heritage of this land and deserves proper attention and care.”
My only request is that responsible authorities, especially the esteemed President, issue a special order for the treatment and care of Master Fani. He is a cultural asset of the country and deserves the best care. I hope all our efforts will lead to his improvement.
