Publishers are not empty-handed / Digital confrontation with book thieves
Iranian publishers are increasingly adopting digital strategies to combat rampant book piracy, asserting that they are not powerless against those who illegally reproduce and distribute copyrighted works.
According to the Iran Book News Agency (IBNA), a recent panel discussion brought together leading publishers and legal experts to address the growing challenge of digital book theft and to outline collective measures being taken to protect intellectual property rights.
Participants highlighted that while traditional piracy methods still exist, the rise of digital platforms and social media has made it easier for unauthorized copies of books to circulate rapidly. Publishers are now investing in advanced encryption, digital watermarking, and continuous online monitoring to identify and counteract illegal distribution.
Legal professionals underscored the importance of robust legal frameworks and prompt enforcement to deter book thieves. They also encouraged readers to support legitimate publishers and authors by purchasing original copies, emphasizing the negative impact of piracy on the literary ecosystem.
The consensus was that a multi-pronged approach involving technological solutions, legal action, and public awareness campaigns is essential for a successful digital confrontation with book thieves, ensuring the sustainability and growth of the publishing industry.
